Integrated Marketing

What is Integrated Marketing?

Integrated marketing is coordinating all of a brand’s marketing channels and messages, such as advertising, content, social media, email, PR and sales, so they tell one consistent story and reinforce each other. It is often called integrated marketing communications (IMC).

Why integrate

  • People see a brand in many places before they buy, and consistent messages are easier to remember and trust.
  • Channels support each other: an ad drives searches, content supports sales and email follows up after events.
  • Budgets go further when campaigns share one plan and one set of goals.

How to build an integrated campaign

  1. Set one objective and one core message for the campaign.
  2. Decide the role of each channel, for example awareness from video, consideration from content, and conversion from search ads and email.
  3. Adapt the creative to each channel while keeping the message and visual identity the same.
  4. Time the channels together, and track results across them with shared KPIs.

Integrated vs omnichannel marketing

Integrated marketing focuses on consistent messaging across channels. Omnichannel marketing focuses on a seamless customer experience as people move between channels, such as starting a purchase on a phone and finishing it in a store.

Integrated marketing example

A furniture shop launches a new sofa range. All channels carry one message, “Made to last 20 years”: the website has a guide on choosing a sofa, search ads use the same promise, email sends a care guide, social media shows the workshop and the shop windows repeat the slogan. Each channel points to the same landing page with the same offer, and results are reviewed in one report.

Integrated campaign checklist

  1. One goal and one main message.
  2. Clear roles for each channel.
  3. Consistent tone, images and offer everywhere.
  4. One landing page that matches the ads.
  5. Tracking with UTM parameters so that you can compare channels.
  6. One schedule and one report.

Integrated marketing mistakes

  • Different teams or agencies running channels with different messages.
  • Offers that differ between the ad and the page.
  • Measuring each channel alone and missing how they help each other.
  • Changing the message mid-campaign.
